Scholl -  CLEAR and Advanced BioHealing Researchers to Garner

Wound Care Award

NORTH CHICAGO, IL -- Researchers at the Dr.William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine's Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and Advanced BioHealing of La Jolla, California, will be given top honors in clinical research at the Symposium for the Advancement of Wound Care and Wound Healing Society Symposium.

Their work, which evaluated more than 5000 wound examinations, revealed that analyzing the shape of a wound can predict its eventual healing.

"This study used rather sophisticated mathematics to answer a simple question," noted David G. Armstrong, professor of surgery and associate dean at Scholl's CLEAR. "The less circular a wound is-- and the more concavities it has -- the less likely it will heal predictably."

Armstrong went on to further note that "Our goal is to create something of a growth curve for complicated wounds -- just like we see when we look at a growth chart during a child’s visit to the pediatrician's office."

The award for the research, which was co-authored by Advanced BioHealing’s Matthew Cardinal and Dr. David Eisenbud with Armstrong, was given to the highest scoring research poster in its group. It will be delivered at a ceremony in San Diego on April 25.
