Dr. Nielson earned a Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine, spending his last clinical year at University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio working with the renowned  Dr. Lawrence Harkless. He completed his residency in foot and ankle surgery at Southeast Michigan/Kern Surgical Hospital, which was the first podiatric residency program in the nation.  During his residency, Dr. Nielson served a visiting fellowship to the Ilizarov Scientific Centre for Restorative Traumatology and Orthopaedics in Kurgan, Russia. Dr. Nielson regularly serves on medical missions to underprivileged areas of the world. He is a member of Liga International-Flying Doctors of Mercy. Currently he serves as a research fellow at the Center for Lower Extremity Ambulatory Research (CLEAR).
